Recently I came across an article which explained why we feel fresh or otherwise in any environment. The gist of it is, when we breathe, while most of the inhaled air goes into lungs, some part also goes directly into brain, breaking all the barriers, and reaching the receptors which sense the quality of the air. If it is foul, suffocating, polluted, we immediately feel it repulsive, feel like running away from it. When we are in the garden, park or a beautiful lake setting, we feel fresh, almost calm, suddenly forgetting our worries for time being. It is the nature which does the wonders.
I often go for a walk, sometimes drive for more than half an hour, just to be in the nature. If I don’t do it, I feel I have wasted my day. I watch trees and flowering plants, I feel the life in them, almost talking to you. You must be aware, and it becomes a habit, the habit of staying in tune with the nature. And believe me, it is a wonderful experience. It is because you are surrounded by the energy of the nature. It is free, but you must sense it, know that it is there, it is live and bubbling out to reach you. When you accept it, it is the unison of your inner energy and the outer energy. That will prolong your life.
Life is governed by laws of nature. When you are in tune with the nature, you are getting Him on your side. Your body functions in the most natural way, most healthy way. You are unlikely to encounter untoward incidences because nature is protecting you.
According to one Greek hypothesis, Earth is a living organism, self-regulating. It is simply extraordinary, we just marvel at it, that Earth keeps all its parameters within tolerable limits for human survival. For example, the oxygen and carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere, the temperature, the ever-fresh water resources, the plant-human dependency cycle, the list is endless. All this gives us the feeling of continuous and ever bubbling life surrounding us. We just need to stay tuned in.
In China, in cities, if you drive around, you will notice many parks, covered by beautiful trees and flowering plants. And you will see many Chinese people practising Tai-chi there in small groups, an ancient form of Chinese Yoga. It is a moving meditation. But most important principle of Tai-chi is, all their movements are aimed at harnessing the energy of nature, being aware and being in tune with it helps them stay healthy for long.
Famous Indian scientist Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose had made some pioneering discoveries in plant physiology. He used his own invention, the crescograph to measure plant response to various stimuli. With his instruments he was able to measure extremely slight movements in plants, such as quivering of injured plants. He interpreted them as a power of feeling in plants. Have a gentle stroll amidst thick of dense jungle, when all human noise is silenced, you get a distinct feel of life around you, those trees trying to express something beautiful, serene and divine. If you do such walks regularly, you automatically keep all your senses alert to tune into your surroundings, the beautiful nature. Makes you forget your stress and worries only because there is no stress and worry in the nature around you, but just the pure joy and energy!
